Broken Doll…

Cream Lace Dress: Topshop

Sailor Collar Jumper: Topshop

Cream Tights: Falke

Shoes: Miss Selfridge

First post of 2012! Hope you all had fabulous evenings. Mine was quiet and snuggley just as I intended; I made honey roast ham for Dave and honey roast vegetables for me…yum.

Today started bright and early with a 2 hour trek with Dave and Bracken, the rest of the day has been filled with uni work for both of us. As I’ve been glued to my laptop, today’s outfit is certainly not worthy of blogging. So this outfit is what I wore to my sister’s birthday meal the other night. It was really lovely but was the night we got home from Brugge and I was so tired I struggled to stay awake, my Dad’s girlfriend told me I looked like a broken china doll!

Ready???

Top: Topshop

Denim Hotpants: Topshop

Tights: Falke

Headscarf: Vivienne Westwood

Bought this Vivienne Westwood scarf off Ebay a few weeks ago, thanks to the wonderful ebay skills of VIPXO! I love it and have been wearing it loads lately. I bought the top in London in November, Dave had given me 10 minutes in Topshop so I literally had to run around but managed to find this little beauty. I couldn’t resist it because it reminded me of something I used to have when I was about 5 years old.

So I’ve had one of those “one week till deadline” weeks, i.e. mad panic. I don’t know what it is about me, no matter how organised and prepared I am; I still worry….a lot. But I think I’m ready, all my assignments are printed and I have my presentation ready for 10.40am on Friday…….eeeeek. Feel like I’ve learnt a lot about my learning style this semester, this course is so different to my foundation degree and it’s been a real challenge. I’ve become increasingly aware of my obsessive list writing!! Dave teases me but it really helps me to make sure I’m not forgetting anything and also to make a plan of how to tackle a work load. I’m hoping that next semester will be a bit more enjoyable as I’ll actually get to make the collection that I’m proposing, I’ve really missed the hands on creativity of making clothes. I’ve also included a timeline in my proposal so I shouldn’t have that first couple of weeks feeling lost at the start of a semester.

Feel like I’ve been locked away for years, cannot wait till Friday lunchtime when I’ll be able to relax and start getting into the Christmas spirit!

My Tea Dress Again and Trying to De-Stress…

Normally I try not to post the exact same outfit too close together but I knew we were going to look around Berrington Hall and I thought that my 1930s dress would look best in the dairy of this neo-classical mansion. Dave took this lovely picture of me, I think the coral colour of the dress stands out beautifully against the colour of the tiles.

Dress: 1930s vintage from Tea Gowns and Textiles

Cardigan: Topshop

Tights: Falke

Brogues: Topshop

Berrington Hall is only 10 minutes away from Tea Gowns and Textiles which is where I bought the dress from several years ago. It seemed the perfect opportunity to pay another visit! I didn’t buy anything as I’m trying to save money but there was a beautiful red velvet 1920s turban that I was covetting!

I’ve been getting myself a bit stressed out this afternoon, as I’ve mentioned before I have to write a business plan for my module “Start Up Planning and Promotion” and so have been doing a lot of research into living costs, business start up costs etc and just generally thinking about where I want to be in 5 years time. I have so much that I want to achieve and am so determined to be successful in the fashion industry, but it is hard. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love it, if I won the lottery I’d still be doing what I’m doing. Come to think about it, winning the lottery would take away the things that are worrying me, fingers crossed for Saturday night eh?!!

I got myself so het up that I wasn’t actually getting any proper work done, so I did what I always do when I get stressed out: closed my laptop, wrote a list of everything I need to get done and then made a timetable hour by hour for the next severn days. It alway calms me down and also means that I put my time to best use.

Once I had calmed down, I created two surveys for research for my business plan. One for potential customers, Click here to take survey and one for potential suppliers (boutique owners) Click here to take survey. I’ve emailed this to various companies and posted it on blogs too, hopefully I’ll get lots of replies.
