Hi, I’m a first year ba fashion student from Manchester.
We’ve been asked to start a reflective learning journal and I have no idea how to go about it. After some googling I’ve been directed to your blog.
I was just wondering if you could give me some advice.
Of course I’d be happy to give you some advice. I have a brilliant handout on reflective learning that I’ll try and scan in for you in the next couple of days. The briefest way I could describe it, is keeping a diary documenting your work, how it’s been successful, problems you’ve encountered, how you have or could overcome them. Things that are influencing your work and how. Have you heard of Jenny Moon, she does a lot of writing on what reflective practice is?
I am hoping to study Fashion Mangement/Buying next year. I googled on some advice on what to put on my personal statement and saw your link. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to put? I am currently working for Topshop, so I will be explaining my role and why i enjoy fashion. is there anything else I could add?
It’s difficult to say really because it really is so personal! I would only write about your work a little, making sure to explain the relevance to why you think you would be suited to the course. I would also talk about what started your interest in fashion, for example I opened my personal statement talking about how I used to make outfits for my dolls when I was little! Also talk about your personal qualities; are you motivated, driven, good at communicating? Do these qualities make you suitable for the career path/course? I hope this helps, happy to answer any other questions and offer any advice where I can,
