Sorry for looking rather miserable in the photos today, still full of cold. I have retreated back to my bed to write this post and to carry on with uni work; I’m reading a fashion theory journal on uniform during the first World War. I wanted to do some sampling for the Structural Silhouettes brief but we’ll see how it goes…
Coat: River Island
Skirt: River Island this was a bargain, star buy for only £12!!
Knitted faux-fur waistcoat: Topshop
Beads: Vintage (curtesey of my mum)
Ring: Dorothy Perkins
Once again, apologies for looking so miserable; Dave assures me these were actually the more cheerful ones!!!
Apologies I haven’t posted my outfit for a few days, I am a grotty grot bag; full of lurgy and so not wearing anything of interest at all! I have however found the coat I want this winter, curtosy of Raisa at Look,Know from Miss Selfridge. I shall be ordering it as soon as my NUS extra card arrives 🙂
How B-E-A-Utiful!!!!!!!!! If I had £290 then these babies from Kurt Geiger would be winging their way to me right now, alas I am a student and have to be sensible with my money. In a few years though I will be successful enough to afford nice treats like these 🙂 In every colour!!!
I’ve done some more designs for the “Structural Silouettes” brief. I’m glad I’ve done them, they give a bit more variety and a wider range for me to choose from. I do however, really need to focus on getting some sampling done now as this is a vital part of the assessment criteria. It will also give me a better idea on how realistic it is that the designs can actually be produced how I want them to look.
Yesterday in Personal Planning, I started my UCAS application; as my course is a Foundation Degree, I have to do a “top-up year” to gain a full honours degree. I’ve registered again with UCAS and started my application, I’m going to try and write a first draft of my Personal Statement before the next session so that Jayne (my course leader) can review it for me. I also searched on UCAS for top-up courses, I found 11 universities and arts colleges (not including the one offered at Staffordshire Uni). I’ve started booking places on open days on the courses that I am particularly interested in, I really need to get ahead on this as places are very limited and competion is fierce. I had thought it would be best for me to do my top-up specialising in “Fashion Design”, however reflecting upon this if I am really considering setting up my own business; it may be more sensible to consider some of the more “Fashion and Business” related courses.
Lot’s of navy blue today, one of my favourite colours really. I loved these Miss Selfridge trousers so much that I copied the pattern, I’ll try and wear my version soon. The shoes are also from Miss Selfridge but aboout 2 years ago, was pure luck that they match so well; I love these shoesies, they’re proper preppy Mary-Janes!! I love the blouse too, only a fiver from Berty and Gerty in Camden.
Lots of people told me how nice my hair looked today aswell, this is the least I’ve done to my hair in a long time! I washed it and then just left it completely to it’s own devices!
Blouse: Berty and Gerty
Trousers: Miss Selfridge
Shoes: Miss Selfridge
I wanted to do a proper photoshoot of the garments I made for a brief last year. I thought that some really good photos would really strengthen my portfolio, I took inspiration for the shoot from a shoot by Annie Leibovitz. The model is my sister; Hannah and the very talented photographer is my boyfriend; Dave. Check out his website; TimeToShoot, he does some cool photos (mainly of me!!). Below is one of the photos he took yesterday:
And here is one of the model, designer and “assistants” Bracken and Walter. They tried their best to ruin as many shots as possible!
